 A city that left me speechless... Its vibrant scenery and mysterious culture make it a place like no other, where mysticism and fanciness become one, as the skies in its infinite orange deserts. In here you will find the tallest skyscraper in the world (Burj Khalifa), the world's most luxurious hotel (Yes, the Burj Al Arab!), the biggest mall, and the only indoor ski resort, all of them a must go. The Burj Khalifa, an 828m tower with 160 stories is house to an art gallery, the Armani Residences & Hotel, offices, and observation decks that you can access by purchasing tickets. Paying a little extra to upgrade into “At the top sky” its worth it, with this you’ll be able to visit the 125 and 148 level, which has a nice lounge where you can enjoy delicious date delights while observing the breathtaking landscape, a mix between dessert and the most futuristic skyscrapers. I can't describe what it feels to be 555m above the ground and surrounded by clouds; it's something you need to see by yourself. The Burj Al Arab, I could write an entire entry about this 7-star hotel…Its extraordinary design, luxury in every small detail and exclusivity, makes it a spot you can’t miss! If your not able to stay here due to its popularity or simply because you are looking into something less pricey, make a dinner reservation, that's the only way to gain access to this wonder. I went to Al Mahara restaurant; it offers a unique setting surrounded by a floor to ceiling aquarium and mouth watering seafood. I recommend you to arrive an hour before so that you can do a self-tour over the facilities and enjoy a glass of XXIV Sparkling Wine with Gold Flakes (speaking of lavishness). The Dubai Mall (an irresistible temptation for shopaholics like myself) offers over 2,000 retailers with both international and local designers. A souk (or market) where you’ll find handcrafted souvenirs (like sand bottles), amazing jewelry and the famous henna tattoos (mostly seen on brides hands). I was amazed by the beautiful designs and the little time they took in doing them, 3 minutes, unbelievable don't you think? If you get overwhelmed or your wallet can’t take shopping anymore, you can also see the aquarium, do a little ice-skating, or see the fountain show (better than the one at Bellagio in Vegas). Another attraction is the Souk Madinat, a recreation of a middle-east marketplace that will transport you to a more ancient Arabian setting. You can do a little shopping, eat, or a take a tour through the waterways that are surrounded by luxurious villas that you can also book. Helicopter tours are also a must since you can see the Jumeirah Palm, an artificial island where the Atlantis hotel (like the one in the Bahamas) is located, offering an excellent option for your stay. As you can see, there are tons of things to do, it depends on how long are you staying, but a visit to the spots mentioned and to the mosques is mandatory to make this long trip worth it! Unfortunately or fortunately I took a cruise and wasn't able to do as much as I wanted, but that's an excellent excuse to go back to this mystical place soon! In fact, I already have a to-do list for my next trip, that includes: spending NYE to see the firework show on the Burj Khalifa, skiing on the mall, taking the helicopter tour, dinner at the sky experience (on a platform suspended over 50m), trying the zip line over the mall fountain, and taking a safari camp to have dinner on the desert with a belly dancers show. As of a place to stay, I recommend the Sofitel Downtown; my room view was nothing more than the Burj Khalifa, which can also be seen at its infinity pool (a great spot for an Instagram selfie). Another thing I loved about it was its location since it was walking distance from the Dubai Mall. P.S: Almost forgot about the dress code… You’ll have to look stylish without showing your knees or shoulders. If you are a woman long silky dresses or skirts and pashminas are an excellent option and the best thing that can happen to you with that hot weather! BTW, never wear white if you are visiting a mosque, it is considered disrespectful. - Simplemente WOW, me quedo sin palabras cada que pienso en esta ciudad, su misteriosa cultura y sus paisajes que parecen de una peli futurística. Este lugar tiene un vibe único, en el cual los adjetivos mágico y suntuoso se unen, al igual que su infinito desierto de arena naranja que se confunden con el cielo cuando miras al horizonte. Aquí encontraras el rascacielos más alto del mundo (Burj Khalifa), el único hotel 7 estrellas (Burj Al Arab), el mall más grande (Dubái Mall), y la única estación de esquí en interiores; obviamente todos estos lugares son un “must do” para tu lista. El Burj Khalifa, es una torre con 828m y 160 pisos que incluyen una galería de arte, las residencias y hotel de Armani, oficinas y miradores que puedes visitar comprando tickets. Para que tu experiencia sea más cool te recomiendo el upgrade “At the top sky” ya que con esto tienes acceso al piso 125 y al lounge del 148, donde te ofrecen dulces de dátil y té para que disfrutes aún más de tus 15 minutos “en las nubes” (y esto lo digo literalmente, pues estarás a 555m sobre el suelo). El hotel Burj Al Arab, considerado el más lujoso del mundo, se encuentra construido sobre una isla artificial. Su suntuosidad, exclusividad y lujo hasta en el más mínimo detalle, lo hacen un spot que no te puedes perder. Si no consigues una reserva para hospedarte o simplemente buscas algo más económico, puedes ir a alguno de sus restaurantes, ya que es la única manera para entrar. Yo cené en Al Mahara, un restaurante de mariscos con un setting único, pues estarás rodeado por acuarios que van del piso al techo, haciéndote sentir “debajo del mar” (pero más nice que la sirenita). Te recomiendo que llegues 1 hora antes, así puedes dar un tour por el hotel y aprovechar para tomarte una copita de vino espumoso con pedacitos de oro (hablando de lujos…) El Dubai Mall, un paraíso para todas las shopaholics (como yo) ofrece más de 2,000 tiendas, un souk (o mercadito) donde encontrarás artesanías típicas como botellas de arena, y en donde podrás hacerte los famosos tatuajes de henna en las manos (como las novias), y diferentes atracciones para cuando tus tarjetas no puedan seguirte el paso en las compras. Dentro de estas se encuentra una pista de hielo, un acuario y un show de fuentes que obviamente supera las de Bellagio de Vegas. Otro lugar que vale la pena visitar es el Souk Madinat, una recreación de un mercado de medio oriente que te transportara a tiempos antiguos. Aquí no sólo podrás comprar y comer, también puedes dar una vuelta por sus canales, los cuales están rodeados por lujosas villas en donde también puedes hospedarte si buscas un feeling más árabe. Los tours por helicóptero también son súper famosos, pues es la única manera de ver Palm Jumeirah, una isla artificial con forma de palma en la cual se encuentra el famoso Hotel Atlantis (como el de Bahamas), otra buena opción para hospedarte. Como podrás darte cuenta hay miles de cosas para hacer, en mi caso fuí a un crucero y sólo pude disfrutar de 3 días en este místico lugar, ya tengo mi “to do list” para mi próxima visita que incluye: el tour por helicóptero,hacer el zip line de las fuentes de mall, esquiar, cenar en una plataforma elevada a 50m, tomar un safari al desierto para cenar ahí con un show de belly dance, y ver el show de fuegos artificiales que salen del Burj Khalifa en año nuevo. Como recomendación de hotel, Sofitel Downtown, las vistas de mi cuarto eran nada más y nada menos que el Burj Khalifa, que también se ve desde su infinity pool (el lugar perfecto para tus fotos de Instagram). Otra súper ventaja es su ubicación, ya que te puedes ir caminando al Dubai Mall. P.D: El dress code es muy importante ya que no debes enseñar las rodillas ni los hombros, si eres mujer te recomiendo vestidos o faldas largas de seda, se ven súper fashion y son perfectos para el calor. También lleva pashminas de varios colores, son el complemente perfecto para tu outfit y sirven para cubrirte los hombros y el cabello cuando visitas mezquitas (btw, nunca utilices blanco el día de tu visita, ya que es considerado una falta de respeto).
